School of Life Sciences

The School of Life Sciences has developed from Biology Department founded in 1983. It’s one of the departments that were established earlier in XYNU. The School has 2 majors: Bioscience and Biotechnology. So far about 700 students are studying at the School.
　

The School has attached great importance to the nurturing and construction of its teacher team, thus creating a team of high quality teachers. Currently, the School has 37 faculty and staff members, and nearly 70% of them have been conferred a Doctorate or Master’s degree, or are engaging in the study of Doctoral or Master’s degree programs, and 40% of them are professors or associate professors. The School has a special biological experiment building and a number of advanced instruments and equipment, and the value of this equipment is over 6 million Yuan. Moreover, the new building of life science and biological garden of 120 mu are under construction now.
　

The School has always paid much attention to improving its teaching quality and made great efforts to form its own characteristics to meet the demands of the development of science and technology at present and in the future. During the development of 20 years, the School has improved its teaching quality constantly, and also made numerous significant scientific research achievements. In recent years, more than 30% of the students have been admitted to engage in the study of Master’s degree in other universities when they graduated from the School. All the undergraduates studying in the School have passed CET2, more than 96% of them have passed CET4, more than 42% of them have passed CET6, all these students passed the exam on their first attempt. Over 95% of them have obtained employment as soon as they graduated.
　

The teachers are active in doing scientific research. Since 2000, the faculty and staff members of the School of Life Science have published 186 academic papers, composed 9 professional books and textbooks, had one research project aided by the National Natural Science Fund, and 16 research projects of provincial or ministerial levels, among which, 12 have passed the appraisal of municipal and higher level. The School has won 18 provincial or ministerial scientific research prizes. And the School has now established its position in China in the breeding of brand name and high-quality flowers, and in the cultivation and the cure and prevention of disease of special aquatic animals, and has made outstanding contributions to the development of the local economy.

The 21^st century is the century of life sciences, and life sciences will be the center of scientific revolution in 21^st century and biotechnology will be one of the most important parts of the productive force. We have full confidence in the future of the School of Life Sciences.
