School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering has developed from the Department of Chemistry, which was founded in 1975. The School has an institute of applied chemistry, and has been authorized to enroll Master’s degree candidates in one discipline, that is, Applied Chemistry. There are also three undergraduate disciplines, which are Chemical Education, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Technology. The School has formed an education system that can nurture both undergraduate and postgraduate students. At present, approximately 1000 full-time students are studying at the School.

The School has attached great importance to the nurturing and construction of its faculty, thus creating a team of highly qualified teachers. Currently, the School has 60 faculty and staff members, more than 20 of whom have been conferred a Doctorate or Master’s degree, or are engaging in the study of Doctoral or Master’s degree programs; 30 of whom are professors or associate professors, including 6 supervisors of master degree candidates. The School has a chemistry experiment building that covers an area of 8,000 square meters, and a number of advanced instruments and equipment with a value of over 9,000,000 Yuan.

The School pays great attention to scientific research. Since 2000, the School has had more than 40 scientific research projects of provincial level, and 15 projects aided by the Education Department of Henan Province. In the past five years, the faculty and staff members of the School have published more than 300 academic papers, in which 20 have been collected by SCI and they have composed 12 professional books and textbooks. The School has won 35 provincial or ministerial scientific research prizes. During the development of almost 30 years, the School has actively conducted such activities as offering technological services and organizing students to take part in social practice, and has obtained good social and economic effects, and now it has gained notability and nurtured a large number of qualified and talented graduates.
