 ¡¡ School of Mathematics and Information Science The School of Mathematics and Information Science has developed from the Department of Mathematics founded in 1975. The School has 2 undergraduate disciplines, namely Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Information and Calculating Science. It has also been authorized to enroll Master¡¯s degree candidates in the following two disciplines: Basic Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The Basic Mathematics of the School is the key discipline of Henan Province, and the Applied Mathematics and the Systematic Theory are the key disciplines of our university. The School has formed its own research characteristics in the study of Applied Functional Analysis, Biological mathematics, Theory of Semi-group Algebra, Theory of Quantum Group and Combining Mathematics, and also had an important effect on the experts in mathematics both at home and abroad. The School now has 4 key disciplines of provincial level, they are Mathematics Analysis, Advanced Mathematics, Ordinary Differential Equations, and Real Functions and Functional Analysis. At present, over 1,300 full-time students are studying at the School, including more than 40 master¡¯s degree candidates. ¡¡ The School has always attached great importance to the nurturing and construction of its teacher team, thus creating a team of highly qualified teachers. Currently, the School has 40 faculty and staff members, and more than 20 of them have been conferred a Doctorate or Master¡¯s degree, or are engaging in the study of Doctorate or Master¡¯s degree programs, and 21 of them are professors or associate professors, including 15 supervisors of master¡¯s degree candidates. Three teachers have got the title of ¡°Excellent Teacher at Provincial Level¡±, three have got the title of ¡°Leader of Academic and Technology for New Century in Henan Province¡±, and one has got the title of ¡° National Excellent Teacher¡±. The School has always paid great attention to academic exchange and scientific research. Since 1995, the School has had more than 40 scientific research projects aided by the Education Department and the Science Department of Henan Province and 2 projects aided by the National Natural Science Fund. Moreover, the staff members of the School have attended the study of 6 other projects aided by the National Natural Science Fund, and completed two projects aided by Excellent Youth Science Fund of Henan Province and Innovative Talents Fund of Education Department of Henan Province respectively. In the recent 10 years, the faculty and staff members of the School of Mathematics and Information Science have published more than 300 academic papers, in which more than 100 were published in domestic core journals, more than 60 in influential foreign journals, and 40 have been collected by SCI. They have also composed 13 professional books and textbooks. The School has won 35 provincial or ministerial scientific research prizes. ¡¡ During the development of nearly 30 years, by giving full attention to its own advantages, the School has improved its teaching quality constantly, and also made numerous significant achievements. In recent years, the students of the School have won prizes in the National University Student Mathematic Model Formulating Competition for several times, and nearly 30% of the students have been admitted to engage in the study of a Master¡¯s degree in other universities when they graduated from the School. And now the School has gained notability and nurtured a large number of high quality talents. ¡¡ |
